3D means 3 dimensions. Shapes, like squares, have 3D forms too.
A square turns into a cube, a triangle into a pyramid and circle into a sphere.
If you flat down a square box, you will see how it is made, follow this example:

As you can see, a cube is made of squares, lets see a pyramid:
The other forms are the 2D forms.In 3D, a cube is made of squares, so you can use math to calculate how many lines compose a square.
A pyramid is made of triangles, but the lower part is a square, to make a cone, you must change the square for a circle.
A sphere doesn't have any lines or dimensions.
